Icelandic Group has put together a team of sustainability specialists to steer our vision into action. Led by Sustainability Director Nigel Edwards, this cross functional group of specialists recruited from across the Group has been pivotal in creating a common voice for our pioneering role in sustainability and ensuring that our customers’ reputations are protected by our values.
Sustainability Leadership Team
Chuck Spencer – National Account Manager, Global Sustainability Specialist
Chuck Spencer attended St. Joseph’s University, Penn State University, and the University of Central Florida. Chuck is also a graduate of the National Fisheries Institute “Future Leaders” programme.
Chuck Spencer joined Icelandic USA in 2003. His primary role is the National Account Manager responsible for all sales activity to the Non-Commercial and Group Purchasing Organisation channels in North America. His duties include Corporate Sales Trainer, the Sustainability Liaison to eNGO’s, and is the sustainability advisor to the Icelandic® USA executive team. Chuck has 29 years of experience in the North American foodservice segment.
Nigel Edwards – Sustainability Director
Nigel Edwards has two roles within the group, Technical Director of Seachill , a division of Icelandic Group UK Ltd., and Sustainability Director of Icelandic Group hf. He holds a BSC degree in fisheries science from Plymouth University in the UK.
Nigel was appointed Technical Director of Seachill in 2007, and has represented both Icelandic Group and Seachill within various industry bodies including (AIPCE-CEP, GlobalGAP, and as chair of a thematic area within the European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform). He acts as a principle contact person for the group with the global stakeholder NGOs, including WWF and Seafood Choices Alliance. Nigel is part of the executive team at Seachill who have successfully launched the award-winning Saucy Fish Co brand and has responsibility for technical standards, sustainability and product quality throughout their supply chains. Prior this appointment, he was the technical manager at Seachill from the day it was founded in 1998. Before Seachill, he held increasingly senior technical and development positions within Marr Foods (most recent), Hazelwoods, United Biscuits and the Mars group. Nigel is a member of the AIPCE-CEP sustainability committee and was a principle author of their Principles for Environmentally Responsible Fish Sourcing. He is also a member of the GlobalGAP Aquaculture Committee and the UK Food and Drink Federation Seafood Group Steering committee.
Oliver Wadel - Head of Quality Management and Product Development at Pickenpack
Oliver graduated in food technology in 1995 at the University of Bremerhaven, Germany and has more than 15 years experience in the seafood industry.
Since 2005, Oliver has headed Quality Management and Product Development of Pickenpack-Hussmann & Hahn Seafood GmbH. In addition, Oliver is responsible for co-ordination of all customer requests with regard to sustainability issues and traceability of raw materials in co-operation with the sales and purchase managers. Oliver started his work at the former Pickenpack Tiefkühlgesellschaft mbH in 1995 in the product development department and later took over responsibility for the entire division. Prior to his studies in food technology, he worked for Apetito AG in Rheine for three years, one of the leading companies in the processing and distribution of deep frozen convenience products.
